Who is Clarence Thomas?

Clarence Thomas is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was appointed by President George H.W. Bush and took his seat on the Court on October 23, 1991.

Justice Thomas is known for his conservative judicial philosophy and his strict adherence to the text of the Constitution. Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court, Justice Thomas served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and as the Chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He is the second African American to serve on the Supreme Court after Thurgood Marshall.
